Current Top 5 Coffee Places in Portland That Are Not Starbucks

I had every intention of writing a (possibly) great post on feeling the feels during yoga. I still plan on writing that one…but I decided to change things up this week and go a little less “yogi” and a little more “city.”

Don’t let the ridiculously long title fool you–I love Starbucks. I really do. However, if you didn’t know this, Portlandians take their coffee VERY SERIOUSLY. In an effort to get out of my comfort zone of Starbucks and experience more of the city, I have been trying to venture to other places to get a feel for the Portland coffee scene. I’ll be honest with you-I don’t know a lot about coffee besides the fact that it is essential to my life. I present to you know my Top 5 Coffee Places in Portland…and real talk again…these are the only five I’ve been to so far. Working on it.

1. Martha’s

Martha’s is located in Revolution Hall (the converted Washington High School) and is one of my favorites because 1. I teach yoga on the roof of Rev Hall during the warmer months and 2. They make my favorite Iced Soy Vanilla Latte. The staff is awesome, the decor is retro-cool, and they play GREAT music. Also, don’t get me started on the avocado toast. Just add the bacon.

2. Water Avenue Coffee

Two words: Honey Latte.

3. Upper Left Roasters

I went here for the first time last weekend. I thought the barista behind the counter was a bit pretentious and very Portland, but my latte was delicious and I loved the light and simple decor. Lots of windows, cool chairs, and they didn’t seem to mind that we brought jalapeño plants.

4. Dragonfly Coffee House

I visited this one last summer, and it is cozy and colorful and their chai is delicious. Not to mention the fact that they stamp dragonflies on the to-go cups.

5. Stumptown Coffee Roasters

So I know this one seems typical, and a little touristy, but there’s a reason Stumptown is popular. Service was quick and pleasant and the coffee was enjoyable. At the end of the day, don’t we just want our coffee experience to be enjoyable?

My morning coffee with honey and vanilla almond milk! ☕️

If you all have any coffee recommendations, please comment! I obviously need to broaden my coffee horizons!

Have a lovely Tuesday Darlings!

Namaste.
