Happy Sunday Darlings!
Despite the fact that I can’t manage my time well enough to get regular updates up, I am in fact STILL running and training and I just wrapped up Week 9 (HOW?!?) this morning with a long run of 8 miles. Miles 5 and 6 felt pretty rough because my hip flexors were unhappy, but overall it felt 1000 times better than the last time I ran 8 miles. That time, I basically wanted to quit, vomit, and scream all at the same time. It happens. Apparently, according to running people I know, this is normal?? What a life this is.
There have been quite a few bumps along the way. I had a couple of weeks when I ran 2 or 3 out of the five weekly runs because I either A) didn’t want to, B) didn’t have time, or C) didn’t want to. See what I did there? However, the last couple of weeks have been better, although I did skip my run this past Wednesday because I forgot that dentist appointments can apparently take a thousand years and I ran out of time before class. Oh well. *Shrug.* My body and I have been at odds quite a bit regarding my food intake, as it seems hell-bent on me eating ALL OF THE F****** TIME and then there’s me politely telling it that one cannot eat 24 hours a day and there is other s*** that needs to get done thank you very much. We’re working on it.
The reality that I’m going to be running a half-marathon in about six weeks around a lot of other people is starting to set in and I’m getting pretty nervous, but also excited…and also a little excited to get it over with! I’m heading to Bend next weekend to see a couple of dear friends and to get a feel for the race route at Smith Rock on Saturday and Sunday…and my first 10-mile run will be on Sunday as well!
It hasn’t been easy (not that I was expecting it to be) but I’m so grateful for this experience so far. Plus, the stress is pretty intense in my life right now and I don’t know what I would do if I didn’t have running as a release. I ran over 16 miles this past week and I still had about three meltdowns…so I can only imagine how much worse things could be! 🙂
